Georgia football suffered their biggest loss of the offseason when former quarterback Carson Beck announced his decision to transfer to Miami (FL). Sure some fans are ready to move on to a new QB in Beck’s place after his struggles this year, but there’s no denying that this loss was a big one.
But now that this move from Beck is in the past, it’s time for Georgia to move on and focus on their own team. However, it is just a matter of time until Georgia and Miami cross paths again on the recruiting trail, and when that time comes all UGA fans likely want to get some revenge on the Hurricanes.
Well it just so happens that Georgia will get that chance as Miami and UGA appear to be in a great position with an elite recruit in the 2026 class.
Georgia and Miami battling for 5-star Derrek Cooper
Derrek Cooper is a five-star ATH from Hollywood, FL. According to the Rivals recruiting rankings, Cooper is the No. 7 overall player in the country. He also is the top ranked player at his position and the No. 1 player from Florida as well.
Kirby Smart and Georgia received great news from Cooper as he scheduled an upcoming visit to Athens on Feb. 1. However, that isn’t the only visit he scheduled as he also scheduled an upcoming visit with Miami and Auburn.
Winning this recruitment will be extremely difficult based solely on the fact of how many elite programs are targeting him. But these are the recruitments Georgia needs to win if they want to continue to compete for championships in the years to come.
And it just so happens that Miami is active in this recruitment as well, so beating the Hurricanes after they stole Beck would be another added bonus.
