A Behind-the-Scenes Look at the Eagles’ Selection of Georgia Linebacker Smael Mondon
Continuing their well-known trend of drafting talent from Georgia, the Philadelphia Eagles picked linebacker Smael Mondon on the third day of this year’s draft. A newly released video provides an exclusive glimpse into the team’s draft strategy for day three and reveals how Mondon became their choice.
General Manager Howie Roseman opens the meeting by stating that landing two starters on day three would mark a successful draft.
Scouting department member Lee DiValerio then shares his thoughts, saying, “Mondon was the top remaining player on my board in terms of potential. He’s got the size, speed, range, and can blitz, drop into coverage—he’s a complete three-down linebacker

As expected, the Eagles selected Smael Mondon, adding yet another former Georgia Bulldog to their defense. He’ll reunite in Philadelphia with several of his college teammates.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Mondon’s rookie contract is projected to be worth around $4.6 million over four years.
A key part of Georgia’s 2021 recruiting class, Mondon played a vital role in the Bulldogs’ 2022 national championship run. Known for his toughness, he often played through injuries and chose to return for the 2024 season, finishing with 57 tackles and a career-best in pass deflections.
In addition, the Eagles recently exercised the fifth-year option on defensive tackle Jordan Davis, signaling not only their commitment to Georgia talent, but also their satisfaction with the contributions those players have made so far.
