Former UAB and Jacksonville State coach Bill Clark joins new broadcasting team this fall

A familiar voice will be heard during Jacksonville State football games, as former head coach Bill Clark joins the broadcasting roster, announced by Bill Bussey on the Rick & Bubba Show on Thursday.

Clark will provide commentary for two home games alongside Eli Gold, specifically for the matchups against Southern Mississippi on September 21 and Florida International on November 16.

“His abilities are impressive,” said Bussey, who recently became Jax State’s assistant athletics director for broadcasting. “I’m thrilled to have him on board. They’ll make an outstanding duo.”

Athletics director Greg Seitz confirmed that Clark will take on the role of color analyst. “We’re thrilled to welcome Coach Clark to our broadcast team as our color analyst,” Seitz stated. “He’ll bring invaluable insights from a coach’s perspective, and with Eli Gold, we believe we have one of the best broadcast teams in the nation.”

Mike Parris and Ray Hammett will continue to lead radio broadcasts on the Gamecock Sports Network.

Clark, who recently concluded a six-season tenure as head football coach at UAB with a 49-26 record and two Conference USA championships, was recognized as the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year in 2018 when he guided the Blazers to an 11-3 record and a CUSA title.

He retired in 2022, citing ongoing back issues.

Prior to his time at UAB, Clark coached for a season at Jacksonville State, his alma mater, where he led the 2013 team to an 11-4 record and a spot in the FCS playoff quarterfinals.

A Piedmont High School alumnus, Clark also had significant roles as defensive coordinator at South Alabama from 2008 to 2012 and as head football coach at Prattville High School from 1999 to 2007.
