Former South Alabama super talent suffers season-ending injury, according to multiple reports

A former star from South Alabama has opted out of the remainder of the 2024 season at Louisville, according to multiple reports.

The player, a Mobile native, participated in only four games for the Cardinals this season after suffering a broken collarbone during preseason camp. He recorded 15 catches for 179 yards and no touchdowns, but returned a kickoff 100 yards for a score in Louisville’s 52-45 loss to Miami last Saturday.

Having never redshirted during his four years at South Alabama, he could potentially play the 2025 season at Louisville or elsewhere as a sixth-year senior if he does not take the field again this season. According to a report by Pete Nakos of On3 Sports, he and the Cardinals are “working on a deal” for his return to the team next season.

This player was a first-team All-Sun Belt Conference selection at South Alabama in 2023, setting a program record with 91 receptions and finishing among the national leaders with 1,316 receiving yards.

Over four seasons with the Jaguars, Caullin Lacy caught 207 passes for 2,517 yards and 13 touchdowns, and also returned a punt for a score.
