James Franklin and the Nittany Lions Receive Stunning News as Former Penn State Standout Takes New Coaching Job
A member of Penn State’s storied 2016 team, has taken a new job in the college coaching ranks.
UMass announced Wartman-White on Thursday as its new defensive line coach. He joins the Minutemen after serving two years at Akron in the same position under former Penn State offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead.
Wartman-White was a promising player during his years in Happy Valley, but he never reached his full potential due to injuries. From 2012-2016 as a linebacker, he recorded 119 tackles, 1.5 sacks and an interception. 2014 was his best statistical season with 74 tackles. He then enjoyed a Big Ten Championship in 2016 while recovering from an injury. The Philadelphia native became a graduate assistant at Mississippi State then took his first full-blown gig as the D-line coach at the University of New Hampshire in the FBS ranks.
Moorhead pulled him up to the FBS level, and now Wartman-White gets his next coaching shot with newly minted UMass head coach Joe Harasymiak. It’s also a long way away, but Penn State has a matchup with UMass scheduled for 2028, according to FBSchedules.com. Perhaps Wartman-White could make his return to what will then be a fully renovated Beaver Stadium.
