Former K-State’s Will Howard Dealt With Unavoidable Criticism

Former Kansas State quarterback Will Howard has been listening to pundits and external chatter over the past year, using it as motivation during his championship journey with Ohio State. However, he is now facing criticism as he takes his first steps toward the professional league. Howard’s performance at the NFL Combine has drawn critiques after he overthrew multiple receivers.

Some supporters came to the quarterback’s defense, pointing to his recent postseason achievements as a reason to give him the respect he deserves.

Naturally, fans of Michigan and Ohio State exchanged insults, comparing Howard’s performance to that of Minnesota Vikings’ first-round pick, JJ McCarthy.

“It’s amusing to see Michigan fans criticize Will Howard while being aware that this was their star’s combine performance,” a user tweeted.

Howard played for four years at Kansas State, but his lack of individual accomplishments and postseason chances prompted him to transfer to Ohio State. He quickly made a difference, leading the Buckeyes to their first championship since 2015. His stock rose in NFL Draft projections, but some remain doubtful.

After four seasons of not making a significant impact in Manhattan, KS, he was largely left out of Draft discussions. Despite winning a title, questions linger about his ability to carry this success into the professional realm. Ohio State had a wealth of talent and the nation’s best defense, which doesn’t guarantee that Howard will see the same advantages in his next potential destination.

However, like during his time in Columbus, Howard is familiar with the criticism. Perhaps he will channel this doubt to propel his NFL career.
