JUST IN: Former Jets honest star player admission to visits Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins are caught in a challenging position as they navigate the recoveries of defensive ends Jaelan Phillips, Bradley Chubb, and Cameron Goode from injuries sustained towards the end of the 2023 season. To bolster their pass rush, Shaq Barrett was brought in on a one-year contract, but general manager Chris Grier seems to have further plans.

Reportedly, Aaron Wilson, an NFL correspondent for Houston’s KPRC 2 news station, disclosed that Carl Lawson, a former New York Jets defensive end, met with the Dolphins as well.

Lawson, who is 28 years old, recorded seven sacks in 2022 but saw limited playing time with the New York Jets last season, managing only two pressures in 101 snaps over six games. As a rookie with the Cincinnati Bengals, the former fourth-round pick achieved a career-high of 8.5 sacks.

After the 2020 season, the Jets secured him with a three-year contract worth 3 million, a potential deal with Lawson would likely be a short-term arrangement aimed at proving himself.

A theoretical agreement could benefit both parties involved. Miami is in need of assistance to address their edge rusher injuries, and providing Lawson with significant playing time early in the season could propel him towards a more lucrative multiyear contract in 2025.
