Former Nebraska coach Scott Frost once remarked that Cameron Jurgens could become “the next Dave Rimington.” Now, the potential of Jurgens, a native of Beatrice, is shining through on NFL Sundays, as he was honored on Thursday as a Pro Bowler in his first season starting at center for the Philadelphia Eagles.

After playing right guard for the Eagles last season, this recognition is a remarkable achievement for Jurgens. It’s an impressive milestone at any point, but it’s particularly notable given the pressure of being selected as the center-in-waiting for Jason Kelce when he was drafted in the second round as the 51st overall pick in 2022.

The Eagles boast a strong 13-3 record, having won the NFC East, and they are set as the No. 2 seed for the upcoming NFL playoffs.

According to Eagles right tackle and fellow Pro Bowler Lane Johnson, “For him, he keeps it pretty simple.” Johnson explained to Yahoo! Sports that by taking this approach, Jurgens can maintain his focus without trying to be a “hero” or emulate Kelce every snap; instead, he is simply being “Cam Jurgens.” Jurgens began his career at Nebraska as a tight end, but Frost recognized his potential to become a great center in the future.

Despite occasionally facing snapping difficulties during his time at Nebraska, Jurgens’ elite skill set has always been evident
