Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks as the No. 92 overall pick in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft on Thursday night.

Milroe is the third player from the Crimson Tide to be selected in this draft class, following offensive guard Tyler Booker, who was chosen 12th overall by the Dallas Cowboys, and linebacker Jihaad Campbell, who was picked by the Philadelphia Eagles with the 31st pick in the first round.

Nick Saban, the former head coach of Alabama and current analyst for ESPN’s College GameDay, broke the media’s no-cheering rule by applauding when Shaun Alexander—an iconic running back for both the Crimson Tide and the Seahawks in the 2000s—announced Milroe’s name.

"He's gonna give the Seahawks an element of offense that nobody else in this draft can give anybody."

“He’s going to bring an offensive dimension to the Seahawks that no one else in this draft can offer,” Saban said during the ABC broadcast. “This guy is incredibly fast and explosive. Plus, he can throw the ball well; he has a strong arm and excels at throwing deep. He just needs some refinement and more consistency in his passing game to become an outstanding player.”

“There were a lot of big plays, and I always told him, ‘Jalen, you make enough big plays. Now let’s work on reducing the mistakes—like sacks, fumbles, and interceptions—because those can stop drives, even when you make plenty of good plays.'”

Milroe’s first year as a starter in 2023 coincided with Saban’s final season coaching at Alabama. The Crimson Tide faced a loss at home against Texas in Week 2, and Milroe was benched during the following game. However, as a dual-threat quarterback, he helped Alabama reach the College Football Playoff semifinal against Michigan, marking their first loss since the game against the Longhorns.

“It says a lot about a young man who struggled in a game against Texas two years ago,” Saban noted. “We benched him, but he came back as a leader and guided us to the playoffs, though we lost to Michigan. He played a significant role in that. His ability to overcome adversity will be beneficial for him in the future.”

Milroe becomes the first quarterback selected within the first three rounds since Russell Wilson.
