A few days ago, reports emerged that new North Carolina Tar Heels head coach Bill Belichick was recruiting his friend Vince Marrow to join his coaching staff. This led to speculation about Marrow’s future and whether he might consider changing positions, especially given one program’s rise and another’s decline.
Today, sports reporter Sarandon Raboin of WHAS 11 shared that she has spoken with Marrow, who has confirmed that he plans to remain with Kentucky and head coach Mark Stoops.
I spoke with Vince Marrow today, about the UNC rumors
“For me, I’m here….I can’t control what other people say they want. But really for me, I’m here”
He also told multiple UK fans at the event I was at, they can expect him back for next season.

For supporters eager to see Stoops and Marrow rebuild the Kentucky football program, Marrow’s decision to stay is certainly a positive sign. As Kentucky’s top recruiter, he plays a crucial role in attracting talent, especially through the transfer portal. In a season where many players are departing, Marrow will be instrumental in bringing in new talent to strengthen the Wildcats for next season and beyond.
However, there seems to be an underlying hesitation in his statements. While he mentioned that people can expect him back for next season, this wording doesn’t convey a definitive commitment of “I’m not leaving.” It suggests that the North Carolina opportunity isn’t compelling enough at the moment to entice him away. This raises questions: Does Bill Belichick need to look elsewhere for his assistant coaches, or should he enhance his offer to Marrow to lure him to North Carolina? Is Marrow still considering his options, or is he genuinely focused on rebuilding Kentucky after recent turmoil?
One thing is certain: Kentucky football is likely to experience more changes in the coming months. While player movement is expected, there may also be coaching adjustments on the horizon.
