Florida Gators Dealt with Unfortunate Injury News on a Tuesday Evening
Florida sophomore left-handed pitcher Frank Menendez will miss the remainder of the 2025 season with an elbow injury, according to head coach Kevin O’Sullivan.
Menendez hadn’t pitched since March 5th vs FAU and was listed on the injury report as ‘OUT’ vs Tennessee last weekend.
On the season, Menendez posted a 1.29 ERA across seven innings pitched, allowing just one run, five hits, and three walks while striking out 12 batters. The 6’1, 215-pound left hander was marked as one of the most improved pitchers during the offseason, according to O’Sullivan.
“Frankie Menendez has taken the next step,” O’Sullivan said preseason.
Across 16.1 innings throughout his rookie campaign in 2024, Menendez posted a 4.96 ERA with 14 strikeouts and 13 walks.
Menendez lost 15 pounds in the offseason and appeared to be in much better game shape. He also found an increase in velocity, seeing his fastball jump from high 80’s / low 90’s to mid 90’s.
“They wanted me to lose some weight, cut down on the weight, make it easier for mechanics. Once I lost the weight and trimmed down and got back to where I was in high school, everything kind of started clearing up in the zone, allowing me to throw strikes and throw a little harder this year,” Menendez told Gator Country.
The Miami, Florida native projected to be one of Florida’s primary arms out of the bullpen this season. Menendez joins Joshau Whritenour and Kyle Jones as Gators that are out for the season. Menendez was the only experienced lefty in Florida’s bullpen, which means younger guys will have to step up throughout the 2025 season.
