“Blessed to receive an offer from the Eagles” USM announce the commitment of an electrifying playmaker

southern Miss has expanded its list of commitments for the class of ’25 by bringing in a promising local linebacker from Oak Grove. He shares his thoughts on his decision to commit.

In today’s climate of the transfer portal, high school athletes’ commitments enable coaching staffs to be more discerning in their offers, with most schools halving the number of offers to high school athletes. Despite this trend, Henderson stood out as an irresistible prospect for the Golden Eagles.

Having been on the Southern Miss staff’s radar, Henderson solidified his position as a top target after they observed him during a camp.

“I attended the camp, worked hard and felt great about my performance,” Henderson explained.

“After the camp was done, I spoke with Coach Whitehead and Coach Hall about me potentially playing for USM, which led to Coach Hall offering me”

Shortly after receiving the offer, he promptly informed the staff of his decision.

“Several aspects of USM caught my attention, such as the program’s hospitality, the coaches’ passion, and the sense of it being a welcoming environment,” he remarked.

“I believe I can truly have an impact there, which ultimately influenced my choice to commit.”

Coach Chad Williams has taken the lead in recruiting Henderson. Throughout the process, he has established a strong rapport with the entire staff.

“Coach Whitehead and I have a great rapport,” he explained. “I trust him completely. As for Coach Chad (Williams), I believe he can guide me towards success and development.”

“Coach Hall has expressed genuine interest in me, and I feel a strong connection with him. Among the coaches I’ve spoken to, the coaching staff has been very welcoming, and I’m eager to build relationships with all of them.”

Coach Hall is transparent about his goal to recruit local athletes and secure them for Southern Miss. Henderson shares this vision and is excited about the prospect of living near his future home.

“Being close to home is a significant advantage for me at USM because my support system is here,” he added.

“My family is everything to me and it was definitely a factor in my decision to commit.”
