The Denver Broncos are making a big change at quarterback for the 2024 season as they are planning to part ways with Russell Wilson after two disappointing years.
To acquire Wilson, the Broncos gave up a lot of valuable draft picks to the Seattle Seahawks, but unfortunately, their gamble didn’t pay off as they failed to make the playoffs in both seasons.
The Broncos tried to support Wilson by hiring Super Bowl-winning coach Sean Payton, but even his expertise couldn’t revive the former star’s performance.
Despite having to deal with the financial repercussions of Wilson’s remaining contract, the Broncos seem willing to absorb the dead cap hit and search for his replacement through free agency or the 2024 NFL Draft
Fortunately for Denver, there should be some solid bridge quarterbacks available in free agency in the event they decide not to draft Wilson’s successor this year.
Benjamin Allbright suspects that the Broncos could look to someone like Jimmy Garoppolo as their starter next season via his personal Twitter account.
“Hmmm. I don’t think they go QB early at this point. So I’ll guess Jimmy G as starter next year and draft Michael Pratt,” Allbright tweeted.
When I suggested this a month ago it was viewed as ridiculous.

Despite still being under contract with the Las Vegas Raiders, it seems that Garoppolo’s future with the team is uncertain following some major changes within the organization.
After Antonio Pierce assumed the role of interim head coach, he decided to bench Garoppolo and give rookie Aidan O’Connell a chance instead. This indicates that Garoppolo’s playing time has been negatively impacted by the coaching transition.
Now that there’s a new management team in place, it’s highly likely that Garoppolo could be either released or traded before the start of the next season. This situation presents an intriguing opportunity for the Broncos, should Garoppolo become available.
