This edition of Sentell’s Intel on Georgia football recruiting offers insights about what lies ahead for the recruitment of 5-star QB Jared Curtis.
Over the weekend, Curtis made headlines by announcing a major cut to his recruitment options. He has narrowed it down to just Georgia and Oregon.
On3.com’s Hayes Fawcett reported on Monday evening that Curtis has also scheduled unofficial visits to these two final candidates for the spring.

He will be visiting Eugene and Athens back-to-back in early March, marking what is believed to be his third trip to Oregon and approaching his tenth visit to UGA.
These visits are unofficial before his official ones. He is scheduled to officially visit both schools in June, but it seems likely that he could make his decision in April or May and later take his official visit to the chosen program during the summer.
To be honest, this perspective has been consistent for some time. The state champion quarterback from Nashville Christian just confirmed it.
He briefly considered Alabama, Auburn, Ohio State, and South Carolina, but those options didn’t seem viable given the returning talent at the quarterback position for each team, except perhaps for South Carolina.
Anyone who believed the Gamecocks could surpass the Ducks and Bulldogs in the recruitment race likely had a vested interest in their unique Cockaboose tailgate offerings.
The recruitment of Curtis will be intriguing to follow due to all the dynamics at play, especially since UGA appears to be making a strong push to win him over.
Last week, when news surfaced that Oregon would potentially “lose” its previous QB commitment, Jonah Williams, to USC, it indicated where the focus of that program lay. The Nike swoosh is now directed toward Nashville and Curtis.
The 6-foot-1 Williams, ranked as the nation’s No. 7 QB from Illinois, was a top 100 overall recruit and had been committed to the Ducks since August of last season. This scenario made sense as they tracked Curtis, the No. 1 QB according to both the 247Sports Composite and the On3 Industry Ranking.
Curtis is ranked as the top overall prospect by the former and the fifth overall recruit by the latter. He is a player capable of scoring two rushing touchdowns and throwing for two more in a significant SEC game, all while looking like a potential first-round draft pick.
However, he hasn’t faced elite competition in high school, which may mean it could take him a season to be ready to compete for championships at UGA. This is a common challenge for quarterbacks in Athens
