England prop Kyle Sinckler named in Barbarians team for Fiji clash at Twickenham

The Barbarians will face Fiji in the Killik Cup at Twickenham next month, and Kyle Sinckler, a prop for the British and Irish Lions, will be playing with Danny Care and Ben Youngs, two former England teammates.

For the match on June 22, which is a part of a doubleheader at the home of English rugby that also includes South Africa vs. Wales, Sinckler, 31, is the most recent name called up to the invitational squad.

He will play for the BaaBaas, who will be led by New Zealander Robbie Deans, alongside Care and Youngs as well as potential England colleagues Jonathan Joseph, Jonny May, and Zach Mercer.

“I grew up watching the BaaBaas and thought they were like the rugby equivalent of the Harlem Globetrotters—a squad consisting of great athletes performing in a distinctive way. It’s undoubtedly something I’ve always wished to do for myself.

“Learning from players who have accomplished big things in their careers has always been a passion of mine, whether it’s with England, the Lions, or club rugby. You should be observant of what the world’s top players are doing to improve and ask the proper questions.

“I can’t wait to get started and will enjoy everything the Barbarians experience has to offer, especially in the front row, where there’s always more to learn.”

Sinckler played a pivotal role in leading England to both the 2019 Rugby World Cup final and the 2018 semi-finals.

Given that the former Harlequins front-rower has committed to join Toulon from Bristol Bears this summer, it seems likely that he has earned his final 68 caps for his nation.
