The Michigan football team is entering the 2024 season with significant momentum, having defeated Ohio State three consecutive times, clinched the Big Ten title three times in a row, and reached the College Football Playoff three times consecutively, all while being the reigning national champions.
However, this year’s Wolverines have a fresh look in terms of both players and coaching staff. They experienced substantial losses from last year’s team, but new head coach Sherrone Moore emphasized at Big Ten Media Days that the expectations remain unchanged.
“Win the big games, beat our rivals, Beat Ohio State,” Sherrone Moore said on Thursday when he took the podium at Lucas Oil Stadium. “Win the Big Ten, make the College Football Playoff and win it. For us, that’s something we strive to do. Tough, smart, dependable, relentless, enthusiastic and together is how I would describe our team. We’re going to do everything we can to strive for perfection. Everything we do everyday is a process and we will continue to strive to do that. And we will continue to do that with a contagious enthusiasm unknown to mankind.”
Moore acknowledged former Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh at the end of his remarks. Harbaugh popularized the phrase “enthusiasm unknown to mankind” at Michigan, and it seems that Moore intends to carry that tradition forward, having gained valuable insights from Harbaugh.
While this year’s Michigan team will look quite different from last year’s squad, their objectives remain unchanged. By the end of the season, they aim to be national champions—it’s simply part of the culture at Michigan.
“When you’re at Michigan, that should be your goal every single year,” Moore said in regard to the national championship, according to a tweet from Maize n Brew.
Sherrone Moore has a background in reaching these goals as a head coach
Now officially in charge of the Michigan football team, he gained valuable experience last year when Jim Harbaugh was suspended. Moore served as the acting head coach for four games, including a challenging matchup against top-10 Penn State and the season finale against Ohio State
