Elite QB commit shuts down his recruitment to the Texas Tech

Texas Tech secured a commitment from three-star linebacker Kaleb Burns for the 2025 class, as he announced his decision on social media this Monday. The 6-foot, 220-pound recruit from Cy Falls High School in the Houston area opted for Texas Tech over other offers from a range of schools.

Despite considerations of attending SMU, Burns experienced a positive official visit to Texas Tech, leading to his commitment to the program. He describes himself as a playmaker with the ability to make plays in the backfield, bringing speed and athleticism to the game.

During his time at Cy Falls, Burns amassed impressive statistics, recording 73 tackles, 18.5 tackles for loss, six sacks, one interception, and two forced fumbles. He is regarded as the No. 510 overall player in the country, the 54th best linebacker nationally, and the 81st best prospect in Texas.

Furthermore, he is the second linebacker to commit to Texas Tech in the 2025 recruiting cycle and the 17th overall pledge for the class, which currently ranks 30th in the nation and fifth in the Big 12.

Looking ahead, Texas Tech’s coaching staff envisions utilizing Burns as either a Will backer or at the Star position, the team’s outside linebacker/safety hybrid. While the program aims to bring in between 18 and 20 high school recruits for the 2025 class, it continues to focus on developing a balanced roster with experienced players in various positions.
