Missouri reportedly lands transfer commitment from FCS WR with Big 12 experience

Mizzou has landed a talented wide receiver from the FCS ranks, reportedly gaining a commitment from former Illinois State player Xavier Loyd. Loyd’s pledge was reported by Matt Zenitz and Chris Hummer from 247Sports.
Loyd had a productive season at Illinois State in 2024, making 66 catches for 912 yards and 6 touchdowns. The Redbirds, voted to finish sixth in the Missouri Valley Football Conference by the league’s media, actually ended up tied for second and advanced to the second round of the FCS playoffs.
Loyd, though, has experience in the Big 12. He walked on at Kansas State in 2021 and spent 3 seasons there, playing in 10 games. He ultimately entered the transfer portal after the 2023 season, landing at Illinois State.
With a strong FCS season behind him, Loyd received interest from a host of Power 4 programs, ultimately choosing Mizzou to continue his college career. It’s a homecoming for the native of Blue Springs, just outside of Kansas City.
Loyd now joins a wide receiver room in Columbia that suffered major departures in Luther Burden and Theo Wease. Marquis Johnson is the top returning receiver among a group that includes Joshua Manning and incoming 4-star recruits Donovan Olugbode and Shaun Terry II.
