East Carolina confirms bad news about No. 2 cornerback draft prospect

East Carolina CB Shavon Revel Jr., Top Draft Prospect, Out for Year With Torn ACL

Three games into the season, East Carolina has reportedly lost its top player for the year. Defensive back Shavon Revel Jr. is sidelined for the entire 2024 season due to a torn ACL, as reported by ESPN’s Pete Thamel on Friday morning. Thamel indicated that Revel sustained the injury during practice ahead of East Carolina’s upcoming game against Liberty on Saturday.

In just three games this season, Revel has recorded two interceptions, returning one for a touchdown. With a 2-1 record, the Pirates have already matched their win total from 2023. The Winston-Salem native is regarded as a leading prospect for the 2025 NFL draft; if selected in the first round, he would be the first East Carolina player to achieve that since Chris Johnson in 2008.

Thamel quoted an NFL scout who compared Revel to former Toledo cornerback Quinyon Mitchell, who made a successful transition from Group of Five to a first-round pick by the Philadelphia Eagles in April.
