When someone questioned Green what would have occurred if he had thrown objects onto the field, as Jamal Murray did during the Denver Nuggets vs. Minnesota Timberwolves series, the conversation got started.
“I would have gotten suspended for the rest of the playoffs, for sure,” Green stated.
The NBA fined Murray $100,000 but did not punish him. Green, who served a suspension for Game 5 of the NBA Finals in 2016, believes there is too much variation in the league.
“The problem I have often times with the suspensions and different things is like… you don’t know what it is,” Green stated. It can be found here, there, or somewhere in between at different times. It moves in an involuntary way. No predetermined “You do this, you get this” You receive it if you do that. It is dispersed throughout.”
“I think it was absolutely insane that you get a $100,000 fine, no suspension, nothing for throwing a heat pack at an official,” Green stated in reference to the Murray case. I swear at an official, and they hurl me beneath the jail.”
The NBA has acknowledged in some of its announcements regarding Green’s sanctions that they occasionally consider past behavior when making these choices.
