Deven Robertson Made A Strong Impression On Notre Dame Coaches As Irish Invasion
Notre Dame was very proactive in extending scholarship offers to 2027 defensive linemen during the Pot of Gold event, and one standout who received an offer was Deven Robertson, a 6-2, 315-pound defensive tackle from Hattiesburg (Miss.) Oak Grove.
He expressed that Notre Dame was his dream school, and he visited campus for the Irish Invasion, where he continued to build his relationship with defensive line coach Al Washington.
“Coach Washington is an excellent coach,” Robertson told Irish Breakdown. “Being on the field with him was an amazing experience. He makes me feel valued and is enjoyable to talk to. Our conversations were great. He asked me how much I love Notre Dame, and I shared my feelings with him. We also discussed my game and how I’m preparing for the season.”
Robertson returned for the Irish Invasion following a spring visit that highlighted Washington’s dedication to him, especially when the coach approached him during team practice for a chat. That encounter has left a lasting impression on Robertson throughout his recruitment.
During the recent weekend, Robertson had the opportunity to showcase his skills in front of the Irish coaching staff, demonstrating a strong mix of speed and power. While he felt that his performance was satisfactory, he had higher expectations for himself.
“I was thrilled to be there and compete,” Robertson stated. “Overall, I think I did alright, but I could have done better. I came straight to Notre Dame after working out at Ohio, and I was sore.”
He referred to a camp he attended at Ohio State the previous day. Although he didn’t need to work out at the Notre Dame camp, being a priority for the Irish coaching staff, he felt compelled to compete.
“I wanted to be out there,” he added. “Both of my legs felt tight, and my rib cage was hurting, so I wasn’t my usual quick and strong self.”
Robertson has several more camps lined up before he turns his focus to preparing with his Warriors teammates, aiming to improve upon last year’s 8-4 record. He is eager to excel individually, but team success remains his top priority this offseason.
“I want to be a leader for my team,” he said. “To help my team progress this year, I need to be a better leader and contribute to winning a state championship.”
Robertson boasts an impressive offer list that includes Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Tennessee, USC, Florida, LSU, Miami (Fla.), Florida State, Auburn, Ole Miss, Missouri, Arkansas, SMU, Mississippi State, and Oregon State.
