Despite the setbacks, Head Coach Dan Lanning & The Oregon Ducks Receive Another Big News On A Top Prospect
Dan Lanning has built strong credibility with Oregon fans, thanks to an impressive 35-6 start to his head coaching tenure, a Big Ten title, and top-tier recruiting classes ranked No. 5, 6, and 9 over the past three years.

However, the Ducks have some catching up to do in this recruiting cycle, currently sitting at No. 16 nationally after missing out on Jared Curtis and Kayden Dixon-Wyatt, and losing 5-star defensive tackle Kodi Greene to a Washington flip.
Despite the setbacks, there’s optimism ahead. Oregon has a stacked group of visitors scheduled for June and remains a serious contender for 5-star quarterback Ryder Lyons out of Folsom, California. On3 recruiting expert Steve Wiltfong even logged a crystal ball prediction today in favor of the Ducks landing Lyons.

While Wiltfong isn’t always right, he did accurately predict Jared Curtis would commit to Georgia.
Lyons is an especially intriguing prospect for Oregon because of his post-graduation plans—he intends to take a one-year religious mission. That built-in gap would naturally space him out behind current quarterbacks Dante Moore and Austin Novosad (both redshirt sophomores), Luke Moga (a redshirt freshman), and Akili Smith Jr. (a true freshman).
Oregon’s strong quarterback lineage—four currently in the NFL—appears poised to continue for the foreseeable future.
Lyons brings a lot to the table: he’s confident, a proven leader with a state title under his belt, and has the ability to extend plays and throw with precision at all levels. His creativity, mobility, and playmaking ability outside the pocket give off strong Bo Nix vibes.

When asked by Andrew Nemec of Sports Illustrated which programs are pursuing him most aggressively, Ryder Lyons responded:
“Oregon… almost constantly,” he said. “Coach Lanning and Coach [Will] Stein—I’ve built a really strong relationship with both of them, and so has my entire family, which is pretty amazing.”
He did add one key consideration: “The main question with Oregon is how long Coach Stein will be there.”
