Derrick White officially extend his stay with Boston in a $125.9 million contract extension.
A four-year, $125.9 million deal extension has been agreed to by Boston Celtics guard Derrick White, sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. A player option is included in the deal.
At the 2022 trade deadline, White, who turns 30 on Tuesday, was acquired by Boston in exchange for a first-round pick and a future first-round swap from the San Antonio Spurs. White continued to support the Celtics until they were eliminated by the Golden State Warriors in six games in the NBA Finals in 2022.
Following a first-half season with the Celtics in which he mostly played as a sixth man in the closing minutes of games and in the playoffs for Boston, White has started every game in the last two seasons, making the second team all-defensive each year and establishing himself as one of the best two-way guards in the league.
In the last two seasons, White has improved his shooting significantly, hitting 38.1% and 39.6% of his triples in the regular season and more over 40% of them in Boston’s two postseason runs. This has helped to improve the team’s reputation. As the Celtics defeated the Dallas Mavericks 4-1 to earn the franchise’s record 18th NBA title, he averaged 13.8 points, 48 rebounds, and 39.5% from long range in the Finals.
In an effort to retain the league’s defending champions together for the foreseeable future, the Celtics have signed all of its key players to long-term deals by extending White.
