A running back who had committed to NC State’s football program for just over a week and a half has decided to decommit, leaving the Wolfpack with one less verbal commitment.
While most of the 21 NC State football verbal commits finalized their pledges during the early signing period, one of the three who had not signed has now backed out.
The athlete, a standout at Columbus High School in Texas, had revealed his commitment to NC State just under two weeks ago. However, this dual-sport star, who was the highest-scoring prep basketball player last season with an impressive 45.1 points per game, has decided to reopen his recruitment, according to reports from Rivals’ national recruiting director, Adam Gorney.
This 5-foot-11, 185-pound, three-star running back, who had previously committed to Air Force in the spring before decommitting in September, has since received offers from several top programs. The Arizona Wildcats were the first to offer, followed by the Cal Golden Bears and Houston Cougars within the past week.
As of now, he ranks No. 1,393 overall, No. 105 among running backs, and No. 213 in Texas on the 247Sports 2025 Composite. He was the only running back in the 2025 class committed to NC State.
With his decommitment, NC State’s 2025 recruiting class drops one spot to No. 42 overall in the country, according to 247Sports, though it remains No. 9 among ACC schools. The player’s name is Grayson Rigdon.
