Top prospect for the Maple Leafs, Easton Cowan, recently suffered what seems to be a serious injury after taking a heavy hit.
Following a challenging training camp with the Leafs, Cowan returned to the OHL, quickly resuming his scoring success from the previous season.
On Friday night, he unofficially set a new record during a game against fellow Leafs’ first-round draft pick Ben Danford and the Oshawa Generals, earning a point in his 56th consecutive game. In that streak, he accumulated an impressive 94 points, consisting of 38 goals and 56 assists.
This record-breaking achievement coincided with his selection for Team Canada’s World Junior camp and unofficially surpassed the previous record of 55 consecutive games with a point held by Leafs legend Doug Gilmour during the 1982-83 season.
Regrettably for Cowan, shortly after achieving the new record, he had to exit the game following a significant hit from Generals defenseman Zack Sandhu, which left both players visibly shaken. At the moment of the hit, Cowan was looking down, trying to secure a pass in the neutral zone when Sandhu delivered what was judged to be a clean but powerful hit.
