Cooper Flagg’s Blunt Admission on Duke’s Loss to Houston Turns Heads
The Duke Blue Devils’ run in the 2025 NCAA Tournament came to a surprising end in the Final Four, as they endured a late collapse in their 70-67 loss to the Houston Cougars. Even with the defeat taking place well over a week ago now, Cooper Flagg is clearly still feeling the sting of the loss. Flagg was the only consistent source of production against Houston in this game, as he scored 27 points on 8-19 shooting.
However, he missed a potential game-winning shot with just seconds left in the fourth quarter. Flagg admitted after the game that he was content with the shot, even though he didn’t get the result he wanted. “Yeah, I mean, it’s the play coach drew up. Took it into the paint,” Flagg said.
“Thought I got my feet set, rose up. Left it short obviously. A shot I’m willing to live with in the scenario. I went up on the rim, trust the work that I’ve put in.” While he certainly is not solely to blame for the defeat, it’s clear that it has weighed on Flagg, so much so that he has not watched film from this game yet.
In fact, Flagg shared that he doesn’t think he will ever watch the game back, as he has instead turned his attention towards making his decision on the 2025 NBA draft.
“I haven’t watched any film from the game yet,” Flagg said on Friday per The Athletic. That’s probably something I won’t do, to be honest, is watch that game.”
Flagg averaged 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game while shooting 48.1% from the field in what could end up being his only season with the Blue Devils. If he does end up declaring for the 2025 NBA draft, he’s widely expected to get selected with the No. 1 overall pick.
