Conflicting Reports Emerge as Vanderbilt’s Tim Corbin snaps at reporter and shows frustration after Commodores’ loss to Louisville in Nashville regional

The Vanderbilt Commodores lost 3-2 to the Louisville Cardinals on Saturday night in Nashville.
Vandy’s loss means that the Commodores are just one game away from elimination in the Nashville regional.
While speaking to reporters after the game, Vanderbilt head coach Tim Corbin showed visible frustration, even getting snappy with a couple of reporters.
Corbin first took issue with being asked about a potential second game on Sunday to advance out of the Nashville regional (Vanderbilt will play Wright State on Sunday afternoon. The winner of that game will play Louisville on Sunday evening in the regional final).
“I don’t give a rat’s ass about a second game, all I care about is Wright State, that’s it,” responded Corbin.
The longtime Vanderbilt head coach then gave a condescending answer to a question about the Commodores’ offensive struggles against Louisville on Saturday.
“You play playoff baseball, Aria (Gerson of The Tennessean)? I mean, it’s tough pitching on both sides,” said Corbin. “I mean, we’re pitching hard. They’re pitching hard. Two good teams. You realize that, right? These are good pitchers on the mound. These are battles. We just didn’t win the battle. Don’t go searching for, like, a lot of ancillary bullshit. It’s just we didn’t get the hit.”
The questions Corbin was asked were more than fair.
The first question was simply about how a potential second game on Sunday could affect Corbin’s decision-making in the first game. And the second question, regarding the offensive struggles, was something that all Vandy fans were probably curious about.
Now, I certainly understand Corbin’s reaction — you can’t worry about the second game until you win the first game. And as for the offensive struggles, it’s not what any fan wants to hear, but sometimes that’s just how it goes in baseball. It can be maddening, but sometimes it just doesn’t work out, despite a strong effort from players.
Still, Corbin could’ve been a bit more professional in that setting. These weren’t “gotcha” questions. They were reasonable questions that could have been answered in a much more respectful manner.
