Conflicting Reports Emerge as NC State student accused of stealing $15,000 from university
A student at North Carolina State University was arrested this month after she was accused of stealing nearly $15,000 from a school club.
An arrest warrant said Khiara Simone Dargan “did embezzle and corruptly use” $14,695 from NC State’s African American Textile Society. The warrant alleged that she moved money to her own bank account for personal use.
The warrant also said that at the time Dargan allegedly embezzled the money, she was the president of the club.
Records showed Dargan was arrested on March 25 and was charged with embezzlement, obtaining property by false pretenses, and two counts of identity theft. She was released from jail later that day on a $15,000 secured bond.
According to NC State’s website, Dargan was once named a “Textile Pioneer Scholar,” which included a $14,000 scholarship plus $4,000 in enrichment funds.
Another webpage said that the club Dargan allegedly embezzled from is designed to “provide support for and serve as a network with the minority population in the College of Textiles.” The club is also said to be responsible for NC State’s longest-running fashion show, which dates back to 1997.
