Coach John Harbaugh Announce Another Big News For The Ravens After The Departure Of A Top Legend On Monday
The Ravens have addressed their need for a robust, run-stopping nose tackle by signing veteran John Jenkins on Monday.
The 35-year-old had previously reached an agreement with the Ravens last month, and his signing became official after the retirement of Michael Pierce was processed post-June 1, creating a vacancy on the roster. Jenkins will add depth to an already formidable Ravens defensive line.
Standing 6-foot-3 and weighing 327 pounds, Jenkins is entering his 13th NFL season and will don the colors of his seventh team. He played the last two seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders, starting in every game.
In 2023, Jenkins recorded a career-high 61 tackles, followed by another strong season in which he made 46 tackles. He also registered one sack in each of the past two seasons. Last year, the Raiders boasted the NFL’s 13th-ranked run defense, allowing 116.9 yards per game.

Despite having the league’s top run defense last season (allowing just 80.1 yards), the Ravens were in search of a player to help clog the middle and stop the run after leaving the NFL draft without fulfilling that requirement. Sixth-round defensive lineman Aeneas Peebles, who is 6-foot and weighs 282 pounds, is more recognized for his gap penetration and disruption in the backfield.
Jenkins logged a career-high 609 defensive snaps last season (55% of the Raiders’ total), and 594 the year before. However, he may not need to play as many snaps in Baltimore, as Travis Jones is expected to take on the starting role, supported by Nnamdi Madubuike and Broderick Washington.
While Jenkins is three years older than the retired Pierce, he has demonstrated that he still has plenty of energy left, and the Ravens have a solid track record of uncovering quality veteran players in their 30s.

Originally a third-round draft pick from Georgia in 2013, Jenkins entered this season as an unrestricted free agent. By waiting until after the draft to make the signing, his addition will not affect the Ravens’ compensatory picks for 2026.
