Coach Buzz Williams & The Maryland Terrapines Anticipate A Big News On Friday After A Clear Message From A Top Prospect
Sebastian Wilkins, the No. 31 overall prospect in the 2026 class, is preparing to announce his college commitment, choosing between Duke and Maryland.
The 6-foot-8 power forward from Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, will reveal his decision live on the 247Sports YouTube channel at 4 p.m. Eastern on Friday, May 22.
A potential reclassification candidate for the 2025 class, Wilkins has recently taken visits to both schools. This past weekend, he impressed coaches from both programs while playing with his grassroots team, Mass Rivals, at the Adidas 3SSB event in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Wilkins shared his thoughts on each visit and the messages he’s received from Duke head coach Jon Scheyer and Maryland’s coaching staff, including Buzz Williams and Wabissa Bede.
Duke:
“It was incredible. You don’t really have to say much—everyone knows Duke’s reputation and history. The environment was just great.
(Scheyer) told me I could come in and make an impact. They recruit players they believe can contribute right away. Duke isn’t for everyone, and they made it clear they believe in me.”
Maryland:
“My relationship with them has been developing over the years. I’ve known Wabissa Bede for a long time, and I’ve gotten really familiar with Coach Buzz and the rest of the staff. That connection has continued to grow year after year.”
“It was a great visit,” Wilkins said of Maryland. “I got to learn more about the campus, the school’s history, and what they have to offer.”
Will Wilkins choose the Blue Devils or the Terrapins? Tune in to the 247Sports YouTube channel to watch his announcement live.
Scouting Report from National Director of Scouting Adam Finkelstein:
Sebastian Wilkins initially stood out as a forward with strong ball-handling skills at an early age. Over time, he’s expanded his game, improving his shooting range and developing a more complete perimeter skill set, all while making notable strides on the defensive end. He’s now considered a modern combo-forward—capable of playing and guarding multiple positions.
Wilkins stands 6-foot-8 (in shoes) with a wingspan over 6-foot-10. He has a solid natural frame that’s expected to continue filling out. He moves smoothly for his size and is a capable, though not explosive, vertical athlete. Defensively, he’s versatile and can switch across multiple matchups, and he consistently contributes on the glass.
On offense, while his shooting has progressed, consistency remains an area of growth. He shot 40% from three during the 2024 3SSB season but dropped to 30% during his senior year at Brewster Academy. Currently, he’s a reliable spot-up shooter when given space and rhythm, with some glimpses of becoming a threat in motion—though that part of his game is still developing. He’s most effective attacking the basket, especially against slower defenders, using long strides and a soft touch around the rim. However, he needs to sharpen his decision-making, as he recorded a negative assist-to-turnover ratio both in grassroots and high school play.
In summary, Wilkins isn’t projected to be a go-to offensive centerpiece, but he thrives within a team-oriented system. His ability to contribute without dominating the ball, combined with his defensive versatility and potential as a 3-and-D player, makes him an intriguing long-term prospect—particularly if he continues to improve as a shooter and decision-maker.
