The veteran infielder was designated for assignment by the Los Angeles Dodgers earlier this week, surprising many in the league given that he was only recently acquired at the trade deadline.
The Rays traded him to Los Angeles on July 29, where he recorded a .273 batting average with two RBIs in 12 plate appearances over five games. Before joining the Dodgers, he had a strong season with the Rays, boasting a .307 batting average, two home runs, and 26 RBIs across 76 games.
This move is a beneficial addition for the Reds, especially at this point in the season. Jon Heyman was the first to break the news.
