Cedric Johnson, the edge rusher from Ole Miss, has been selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the sixth round as the 214th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Johnson becomes only the second defensive lineman from Ole Miss to be drafted since 2018 and is now the 260th player in Ole Miss football history to be drafted. Over his four seasons at Ole Miss, he has accumulated 112 tackles, with 40 tackles in his most recent season, along with 22 tackles for loss, 19 sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and a blocked punt on special teams.
Johnson, a three-star prospect from WP Davidson in Mobile, Alabama, expressed confidence in his abilities, stating that he is a reliable player both on and off the field, ready to contribute in various roles for his future NFL team.
Despite opting out of the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, Johnson showcased his skills at the 2024 Reese’s Senior Bowl and impressed at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.
His performance included a standout 40-yard dash time of 4.63 seconds, a 1.61-second 10-yard split, a 10’2″ broad jump, and a remarkable 38-inch vertical leap, ranking among the top performers in his position group. At 6-foot-3 and 261 pounds, Johnson demonstrated his athleticism and agility with a 4.3-second shuttle and a 7.47-second three-cone drill at Ole Miss’ Pro Day.
Johnson played a significant role in Ole Miss’ improved defense under new coordinator Pete Golding, contributing to their successful 11-2 season culminating in a Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl victory.
His experience in a pro-style defensive scheme and praise for Coach Golding’s preparation indicate his readiness for the next level of competition. Inside the Rebels will continue to cover offseason football updates, including draft selections and undrafted free agent signings.
