Chris Sale Reveals ‘Most Important’ Aspect Of Red Sox Trade Decision

When the Boston Red Sox traded their star pitcher Chris Sale to the Atlanta Braves in exchange for promising infield prospect Vaughn Grissom, the seven-time All-Star revealed that his family played a significant role in his decision.

Speaking on Audacy’s “Baseball Isn’t Boring” podcast with Rob Bradford, Sale discussed the considerations that influenced his choice.

“After receiving the call from the Red Sox, I expressed my gratitude and then began evaluating the next steps,” Sale shared with Bradford. “I consulted with my wife, my children, my father, and my agent to assess the situation and determine the best course of action, focusing on practical aspects.”

“However, looking at it from a different perspective, considering my current career stage and personal circumstances, it’s unrealistic for me to travel to Arizona for spring training. It’s too far. I prioritize being able to continue picking up my kids from school, attending all their activities, practices, and games. By being part of the team during spring training in a way that allows me to balance my personal life, that was the key deciding factor for me. Absolutely essential.”
