The Kansas City Chiefs needed to make a roster move following an injury that occurred this week in practice. The 7-0 Chiefs are set to play the 4-4 Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday night. The Chiefs will enter the game short on pass catchers. Kansas City traded for DeAndre Hopkins in Week 8 to help a roster that is without Marquise Brown (shoulder) and Rashee Rice (knee) due to injury.
Tight end Travis Kelce is the team’s leading receiver through seven games. He has 38 receptions for 335 yards and a touchdown. Kansas City will be down another tight end on Monday night. Rookie Jared Wiley popped up on the injury report on Friday for a knee injury. He was a limited participant in practice. Per Pete Sweeney with Arrowhead Pride, head coach Andy Reid revealed Wiley tore his ACL.
The Chiefs plan to elevate Peyton Hendershot for Monday night. “Head coach Andy Reid says Chiefs rookie TE Jared Wiley tore his ACL, and TE Peyton Hendershot will be called up to play against the Buccaneers on Monday night,” Sweeney wrote. “WR JuJu Smith-Schuster (hamstring) has also been ruled out.”
Hendershot has appeared in one game for the Chiefs this season. He has no offensive stats in 2024. Hendershot has appeared in 26 total games since he joined the league as an undrafted free agent in 2022. The Indiana standout recorded 15 receptions for 141 yards and two touchdowns during his first two seasons in the league with the Dallas Cowboys.
