Chargers receive big news for 69-Sack Pass Rusher
One key area the Chargers need to address still is off of the edge defensively. Los Angeles needs more pass rushing and there are only a couple of options available who could be impact caliber players.
Looking at the current market, there is one free agent pass rusher who sticks out among the rest as a potential target.
Los Angeles Chargers Linked to Huge Move for 69-Sack Pass Rusher
Anthony Palacios of Last Word on Sports has suggested that the Chargers could be a potential suitor for veteran pass rusher Za’Darius Smith.
Smith would be a great replacement for Joey Bosa, who was released earlier this offseason and ended up signing with the Buffalo Bills. Even though Smith is now 32 years old, he’s still more than capable of getting to the quarterback.
During the 2024 NFL season split between the Cleveland Browns and Detroit Lions, Smith racked up 35 total tackles to go along with nine sacks and a defended pass.
That kind of production across from Khalil Mack would be big for Los Angeles.
It’s possible that the Chargers will simply focus on adding a pass rusher in the 2025 NFL Draft. They may not want to spend the money that it would take to land Smith. But, if they are willing to spend a bit, Smith would be a perfect pickup for the L.A. defense.
