White Sox claim catcher Drew Romo off waivers from the Mets
The Chicago White Sox claimed catcher Drew Romo off waivers on Thursday and designated infielder Ben Cowles for assignment.
Romo, 24, appeared in three games with Colorado last year. He was claimed off waivers by Baltimore on Dec. 5 and by the New York Mets on Dec. 17.
Romo was selected by the Rockies with the No. 35 pick in the 2020 amateur draft. He batted .258 with seven homers and 24 RBIs in 65 games in the minors in 2025.
Cowles, 25, was claimed off waivers from the Chicago Cubs on Sept. 3. He hit .235 with nine homers and 49 RBIs in 128 games at the Triple-A level last season.
White Sox receive huge praise for their offseason moves so far
The Chicago White Sox have not been a headlining team for the past few seasons.
After the core of Dylan Cease, Yoan Moncada, Tim Anderson, Eloy Jimenez and Jose Abreu departed, the club has been rebuilding.
However, they received a spark last season, with Colson Montgomery giving fans a taste of just what he can do with the bat in his hand. Not making his debut until July 4 of last season, the young slugger went on to crush 21 home runs over the course of 71 games.
Now, add what the club has done over the offseason so far, and there is a lot to be excited about if you are a White Sox fan

CBS Sports’ Dayn Perry and Mike Axisa give the White Sox an “A” for their offseason moves so far, which is the highest grade they gave a team on this list.
“Will the White Sox contend in 2026? No, almost certainly not, but I love the swings they’ve taken this offseason. Landing Munetaka Murakami on a two-year, $34 million contract is a great move. High upside if it works, low downside if it doesn’t.”
While the White Sox are not likely to contend in 2026, they are making all the right moves. And they still have Luis Robbert Jr., who they could trade for a decent return, which could bring their offseason grade up even higher.
