Cam Ward Send Clear Message To Michigan State Spartans & Tom Izzo
We’re entering the longest offseason period for both Michigan State basketball and football, as spring practice has wrapped up and the NCAA Tournament is behind us.
This means we have just over four months to wait until one of East Lansing’s top two sports returns. It’s a challenging time for many fans, but it’s also a great opportunity to familiarize ourselves with some new players who are expected to make a significant impact on both teams.
For the basketball team, some of the newcomers include Trey Fort, Kaleb Glenn, Jordan Scott, and Cam Ward. While Scott and Ward are part of the 2025 recruiting class, both are anticipated to play important roles next season. I’m genuinely optimistic about both, but I’m particularly excited about Ward due to the team’s need for quality big men.
To learn more about him, 247Sports’ Justin Thind featured Ward on his Spartan Spotlight podcast for an interview on Monday, where they discussed Tom Izzo, player comparisons, and his decision to choose MSU.
His main reason for selecting Michigan State? Izzo has a track record of helping players reach the NBA.
The highlight of the interview was when Ward revealed that Izzo has yelled at him a few times, and while he’s getting used to it, he recognizes that Izzo is a dedicated coach who genuinely cares.

Ward also expressed his hope that he won’t be the reason Izzo ends up breaking any clipboards next year.
It’s encouraging to see that top recruits are aware of how Izzo and Michigan State are effectively getting players into the NBA, and the recent draft of Jase Richardson will only enhance that recruiting message. Despite what rival fans might claim, the Spartans consistently send players to the league, and recruits are taking notice.
