BYU football seniors aim to leave their mark by fighting for Big 12 championship spot

BYU football will recognize 20 seniors on Senior Night during their last regular season game against Houston.

This group has experienced a journey of perseverance, growth, and leadership that has propelled the Cougars to an impressive 9-2 record in their second year in the Big 12.

“These guys are awesome,” said coach Kalani Sitake. “I love coaching these guys

Of the 20 seniors, 17 have seen significant time on the field throughout the year. This team has relied on the senior class that went 5-7 last year and struggled in the first year of the Big 12.

Senior Connor Pay spoke on the senior group that leads the team this year.

“We’re a group regardless of how things were going we always showed up and we never backed down,” said Pay.

This year, BYU was projected to only win four-and-a-half games in the preseason projections.

“They’ve (the seniors) helped us get to where we are,” said quarterback Jake Retzlaff.

With an opportunity still available to reach the Big 12 Championship, this senior class is determined to finish strong.

Another senior, defensive end Isaiah Bagnah, expressed his thoughts on the upcoming Senior Night.

“You never think it’s going to happen, this is my 6th season of college football, and this game is going to mean a lot,” he said. “Everything we have prepared for … has led up to this moment.”

For the Cougars, the goal is not only to send the seniors off with a win but also to achieve a 10-win season. This would mark the third time under Coach Sitake that BYU has reached that milestone.

The Cougars will take the field for their Senior Night finale in a game set to be televised by ESPN at 8:15 p.m.
