Exciting news for BYU basketball fans! Head coach Kevin Young has made a significant addition to his coaching staff as of Saturday. Former Georgia Tech and USC guard Kyle Sturdivant is set to join the team as a graduate assistant for the upcoming season.
Sturdivant took to Instagram to share his enthusiasm about the new role, stating, “With all of that being said, I’m elated to announce that I’m joining the staff at BYU this upcoming season with Coach Kevin Young and the Cougs!”
This move not only enhances the coaching lineup but also brings in a player with valuable experience from his time at prominent programs. Fans are eager to see how Sturdivant’s background will contribute to the team’s success in the 2024-25 season. Stay tuned for more updates as the Cougars gear up for an exciting year ahead!
Kyle Sturdivant, a native of Norcross, Georgia, played at Georgia Tech from 2020 to 2024 after spending his freshman year at USC. He was part of the Georgia Tech team that clinched the ACC Tournament title in 2021.
Throughout his career with the Yellow Jackets, Sturdivant made 49 starts and averaged 7.3 points, 2.4 assists, and 2.0 rebounds per game. His total of 301 assists during his four years ranks him 18th in the program’s history.
For the 2024-25 season, Sturdivant will join fellow graduate assistants Jordan “Juice” Woodson, Andy Wessman, Dhruv Mehrotra, and former Northern Arizona forward Nik Mains on Kevin Young’s staff, with one more graduate assistant anticipated to be added.
Earlier this week, Young mentioned to KSL Sports that he is also seeking to hire a dietician to complete his support team for his inaugural season as head coach.
Currently, BYU basketball players are on a break until classes resume at the end of the month, with training camp for the upcoming season set to begin in late September.
