After joining Burnley on loan in the summer with a mandatory purchase clause of €18m subject to specific conditions, Mike Trésor had hoped for a more significant amount of playing time than he is currently experiencing.
Trésor, a promising young striker, came to Turf Moor following an impressive season with 24 assists and eight goals in 42 matches, raising high expectations.
Despite his strong performance history, the player has not been on the field for Burnley since January 12th and has remained on the sidelines, notably missing out on the recent 2-2 draw against West Ham. Following this, the 24-year-old shared his thoughts on the situation with Walfoot.
Expressing frustration about the outcome of the match despite his team being 2-0 ahead, Trésor emphasized that the team’s morale remains positive and they plan to maintain their approach in future games.
While acknowledging that securing a spot in Belgium’s squad for the upcoming Euros this summer seems challenging in his current circumstances, particularly with Vincent Kompany not giving him much playing time, Trésor’s shift from a key player at KRC Genk to a less prominent role at his current club has been noted by Walfoot.
Interestingly, it was Kompany who persuaded Trésor to join Burnley initially, a decision he elaborated on, stating: “Vincent had a particular style of play in mind, which aligned with mine. That’s all. Now, the future remains uncertain. All I ask is for continued belief in me, and time will tell.”
