One of the Canterbury Bulldogs’ best young players has reportedly left the club for a rival NRL squad.
Mason Phillips, who has emerged as one of the team’s most skilled hookers, is an essential component of the Bulldogs Harold Matthews Cup core. He started in the No. 9 shirt during the team’s earlier-in-the-season semi-final loss to the Warriors.
He is originally from Queensland and has proven he has what it takes to be a top player at some point. He is also very skilled in the ruck.
Phillips is expected to sign with the St George Illawarra Dragons and leave Belmore after a successful couple of seasons with the Bulldogs in the Under-17 tournament, according to The Daily Telegraph.
The South Sydney Rabbitohs signed Damien Cook to a two-year contract for the 2025 and 2026 season before deciding to sign Phillips.
It also enables them to make plans for when Cook, who will undoubtedly retire from the NRL in the upcoming years, does so.
