Brian Kelly and the LSU Tigers once again Shocked the college football recruiting scene

Brian Kelly and the LSU Tigers made a major splash on the college football recruiting trail last December by landing five-star defensive back DJ Pickett.
Pickett, the top-ranked cornerback in the 2025 class, committed to LSU over Miami on July 17, 2024, before officially signing with the Tigers during the Early Signing Period.
Now on campus in Baton Rouge, the highly touted freshman is poised to make an immediate impact for the Tigers. At 6-foot-4 and 190 pounds, Pickett impressed coaches during Spring Camp as an early enrollee, drawing rave reviews for his athleticism and potential.
LSU’s secondary has undergone a significant overhaul this offseason, with a revamped cornerback group set to debut this fall. Returning players like Ashton Stamps, PJ Woodland, and Michael Turner will be joined by newcomers, including Pickett and Transfer Portal additions Mansoor Delane (Virginia Tech) and Ja’Keem Jackson (Florida).
Defensive coordinator Blake Baker recently spoke about the retooled cornerback unit and praised the new arrivals: “When you talk about those three guys, they’ve been everything we hoped for. We’re around day nine or ten of camp, and they’re already showing they can handle the scheme and have the athletic tools we need.”
Among the group, it’s freshman DJ Pickett who continues to stand out—and for good reason.

The towering cornerback has drawn significant attention this offseason, with current LSU players saying he’s “as good as advertised” after arriving as the nation’s top-ranked cornerback.
Defensive coordinator Blake Baker reinforced that praise during Spring Camp.
“When you look at DJ Pickett from those first three bowl practices to now, he’s a completely different player,” Baker said. “He deserves a lot of credit. Every time I walk into the indoor facility, he’s wearing the VR headset, studying. He’s incredibly humble, loves the game, and puts in the work.”
Following an impressive first few months in Baton Rouge, Pickett now heads into Fall Camp with momentum and a real opportunity to earn a starting role in LSU’s secondary as a true freshman.
