BREAKING: Xavier Musketeers to Retire Former Star’s No. 52 Jersey for Eternal Recognition in Xavier History

The legacy of former Xavier Musketeers star  will be permanently honored at the Cintas Center.

Holloway, who graduated from Xavier University in 2012, will have his No. 52 jersey retired, as announced by the school on Monday afternoon.

“Just as hanging a championship banner is a symbol of excellence, honoring former players with retired jersey numbers is one of the highest honors a program can bestow,” Xavier Director of Athletic Greg Christopher said in a statement. “Each of these former Musketeer greats contributed to building the foundation of Xavier’s basketball programs.”

Tu Holloway is the fourth Xavier basketball legend announced this year to have his jersey retired, joining Trevon Bluiett, Amber Harris, and Ta’Shia Phillips.

He was a recent guest on The Sean Miller Podcast, where he discussed his career with the Musketeers. From 2008 to 2012, Holloway played a key role in leading Xavier to four NCAA Tournament appearances, including three Sweet 16 trips. During his collegiate career, he averaged 13.7 points and 4.1 assists per game, contributing to three Atlantic 10 Conference regular season championships.

Holloway currently ranks seventh on Xavier’s all-time scoring list with 1,833 points and is third in assists with 550. In 2011, he was named a third-team All-American and the Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Year, averaging a career-high 19.7 points, 5 rebounds, and 5.4 assists.

Currently, the Cintas Center features banners for four former men’s basketball players—Byron Larkin, Tyrone Hill, Brian Grant, and David West—as well as two former women’s players, Tara Boothe and Jo Ann Osterkamp, along with former President Fr. James Hoff and former Academic Advisor Sr. Rose Ann Fleming.

Individual jersey unveilings and recognitions are set to take place in the upcoming seasons.
