Breaking: Wolverines have made a shocking and conflicting commitment decision concerning a four-star linebacker

The college football season is approaching, and September 1—the first day schools can directly contact high school juniors—is nearly here. But before that, there’s a lot of recruiting news to cover. In this edition of the Recruiting Roundup, we’ll highlight a Miami linebacker commit planning to visit this fall, an offensive lineman who is actively recruiting a five-star player, and more. Four-star LB interested in visiting U-M again The Wolverines aren’t shy about pursuing players already committed to other schools. Often, an experience at the Big House can sway a player’s decision. Michigan is looking to persuade 2026 four-star linebacker Jordan Campbell, who has been committed to the University of Miami since November, to reconsider.

Despite affirming his commitment in a recent interview with On3’s Chad Simmons ($), Campbell is eager to visit Ann Arbor this fall. Although committed, Campbell mentioned he is “open to everything.” Michigan is on his radar, as he ranks 68th among all players and fourth among linebackers in the 247Sports composite. “Me and (linebackers) coach Brian Jean-Mary talk or text every day,” Campbell shared. “I had a great visit there, spent time with him, and we’ve developed a strong connection. I plan to return for a game and might even take an official visit.” Ongoing communication is vital, especially with a player who is already committed elsewhere. We’ll keep you posted on any developments in this recruitment.

Sometimes, coaches’ recruitment efforts go unheard, but recruits often pay more attention to their peers. Five-star offensive lineman Andrew Babalola has been a primary target for the Wolverines this summer, and Sherrone Moore and his team are making a concerted effort, enlisting offensive line commit Kaden Strayhorn to help with the recruiting process. “We have a group chat, and I talk to fellow Michigan commit Avery Gach frequently,” Strayhorn shared with The Wolverine’s E.J. Holland ($). “We’re really focused on bringing in Andrew Babalola. I’ve been telling him that if he wants to excel as an offensive lineman, Michigan is the place to be. He’s the final piece. With Michaell Carroll here, I’ve talked to him about Michigan too. I’m also recruiting Wu (Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng); his brother mentioned that if he had the chance, he’d choose Michigan again. I told him to heed his brother’s advice and come to Michigan.”

Two months after his commitment, Strayhorn remains confident in his choice, citing the strong leadership and proven success of Michigan’s coaching staff as significant factors. “Coach Moore has been recognized as the best offensive line coach in college for two consecutive years,” Strayhorn stated. “I admire his background as an offensive line coach. What could be better for an offensive lineman than having a head coach who specializes in that area? Coach Newsome is following in his footsteps and was very engaged with me after he got the job. They’ve been incredibly consistent.” Strayhorn is projected to be Michigan’s future center, although he will be playing tackle at IMG Academy this upcoming season. “I feel really comfortable with that,” Strayhorn said. “Center is where I belong. I don’t see it being too challenging. I’ve had plenty of practice at center and have even trained with former NFL center Charles Bentley. I think it’ll work out great.” Here’s hoping the group chat efforts lead to a commitment or two! Three-star UCF commit receives offer from Michigan Cameron White, a 2025 three-star linebacker who committed to UCF last month, has recently received an offer from Michigan.

Rated in the top 700 on the composite, White has also received offers from Colorado, Nebraska, and Oregon, among others. This summer, he visited Louisville, NC State, Syracuse, and West Virginia. Similar to Campbell, bringing White to campus could potentially sway his commitment for Brian Jean-Mary and the Wolverines, who currently have one commitment at the linebacker position in this class—three-star Chase Taylor.
