Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin announced earlier that the team has acquired defenseman Erik Brannstrom from the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for defenseman Tucker Poolman and a fourth-round pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft.
Vancouver will retain 20% of Poolman’s salary as part of the deal. “Erik is a dynamic skater and a talented player who will enhance our defensive depth,” Allvin commented. “We want to thank Tucker for his contributions to Vancouver. It’s unfortunate that injuries prevented him from continuing his career here, and we wish him all the best in the future.” Brannstrom, 25, played 76 games for the Ottawa Senators last season, scoring 20 points (3 goals, 17 assists), accumulating 36 penalty minutes, and finishing with a +5 plus/minus rating. In his 266 career games with Ottawa, the 5’10”, 185 lbs defenseman has tallied 69 points (7 goals, 62 assists), 145 penalty minutes, and a -13 plus/minus rating.
Hailing from Eksjo, Sweden, Brannstrom has represented his country on several occasions, including at the 2016 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament and at the U18 World Championships in 2016 and 2017, as well as the World Junior Hockey Championships in 2018 and 2019, winning silver in 2018. Brannstrom was initially drafted by the Vegas Golden Knights in the first round, 15th overall, in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.
