Houston Cougars face a tough blow as three players will miss the rest of the season due to injuries. This includes junior defensive lineman, true freshman wide receiver, and redshirt freshman left guardÂ
Coach Willie Fritz acknowledged the injuries during his weekly press conference, stating, “We’re banged up a little bit.” Coppage-El’s injury is the latest, happening before the Rice game. Fritz noted that the Cougars have suffered seven ACL injuries since summer, affecting players such as running back Tony Mathis Jr., quarterback Caleb McMickle, and running back Steve Polk.
Fritz expressed his frustration, saying, “It’s the only part I don’t like about football.” Young, who recorded two catches in one game, had surgery last week and is expected to be out for eight to nine weeks, prompting the Cougars to shut him down for the season to protect his redshirt eligibility.
The Cougars (1-2) are set to play at Cincinnati on Saturday.
