BREAKING: Time for Some Spending, Three Canadiens Free Agent Targets

The Montreal Canadiens, despite being in a rebuilding phase, have shown improvement this season, leading to expectations that they will bolster their roster in the summer. One area of focus is scoring, which is where this year’s free agency class offers promising options. Three wingers who could be a good fit for the Canadiens are Jake DeBrusk, who would be a great addition due to his ability to provide scoring when on form. DeBrusk, 27, has achieved 20 goals three times and has had at least 40 points in five seasons, making him a valuable asset for the Canadiens.

The future of Jake DeBrusk with the Boston Bruins is uncertain, as the team has yet to sign him to a contract extension, and discussions are likely to be postponed until the offseason with the Bruins in the playoffs. This presents a real opportunity for the Montreal Canadiens to target DeBrusk, who could provide a significant boost to their top six forwards. At 27 years old, DeBrusk is in the prime of his career and would be an impactful addition for the Canadiens.

Another notable pending unrestricted free agent who could be an excellent fit for the Canadiens is Anthony Duclair, a Quebec native. Like DeBrusk, Duclair is on the right side of 30 and is an effective scoring winger who could thrive playing alongside the Canadiens’ young talents, such as Cole Caufield, Nick Suzuki, and Alex Newhook.

Anthony Duclair had a solid 2023-24 season, recording 24 goals and 42 points in 73 games. However, he truly excelled after being traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning, tallying 8 goals and 15 points in just 17 regular-season games. Adding that level of offensive production to the Montreal Canadiens’ lineup would be an excellent boost, making Duclair a player worth considering on a multi-year contract.

Another pending unrestricted free agent the Canadiens should keep an eye on is Teuvo Teravainen from the Carolina Hurricanes. If the Hurricanes are unable to re-sign Teravainen, and he hits the open market, he would be another skilled winger that could be a valuable addition to the Canadiens’ roster.

Teuvo Teravainen, 29, is a top-six forward who excels both offensively and defensively, making him a valuable asset to the Montreal Canadiens. If signed, he would be a strong addition to the Canadiens’ special teams units, which would enhance his overall value. Teravainen had a successful regular season with the Carolina Hurricanes, setting a new career high with 25 goals and recording 53 points in 76 games. He has also consistently produced at a high level, with four seasons of at least 60 points, including his last in 2021-22.
