BREAKING: Three Cougars Set to Compete at World Athletics

Two Sophomores and a Freshman Set to Represent Their Nations in Lima, Peru

HOUSTON – The University of Houston Track & Field program will have strong representation at the 2024 World Athletics U20 Championships in Lima, Peru, starting Wednesday. Sophomores Michaela Mouton and Antrea Mita, along with freshman Noah Hanson, will compete for the USA, Greece, and Great Britain, respectively.

ABOUT MICHAELA MOUTON
Mouton will compete for Team USA in the 400-meter event. She qualified for the World Athletics U20 Championships by finishing second in the 400-meter at the USATF U20 Championships in June with a time of 52.88 seconds.

In her inaugural season with the Cougars, Mouton set school records in both the indoor and outdoor 400 meters, earned three All-America honors, and clinched two Big 12 Conference Championships.

The Killeen, Texas native achieved All-America Second Team recognition in the 400-meter at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships, clocking in at 51.50 seconds, and was part of the All-America First Team in the 4×400-meter relay. In May, she won the 4×400-meter title at the Big 12 Outdoor Championship held in Waco, Texas.

During the indoor season, Mouton secured her first Big 12 Championship by anchoring the 4×400-meter relay and earned her initial All-America honor with a third-place finish in the 4×400-meter relay at the 2024 NCAA Indoor Championships in Boston.

ABOUT ANTREA MITA
Mita will represent Greece in the high jump. In June, he claimed his second consecutive high jump title at the Greek Championships, achieving a personal best of 2.20m (7′ 2.50″).

Last year, Mita qualified for the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships in high jump, finishing 17th overall. He made his mark in Houston’s record books with a collegiate-best jump of 2.17m (7′ 1.5″) at the Texas Invitational in April.

ABOUT NOAH HANSON
Hanson, a freshman joining the Cougars for the 2024-25 season, will compete in the 110-meter hurdles for Great Britain. He secured his spot at the U20 Championships by winning the event with a time of 13.58 seconds at the England Athletics U20 & Senior Track & Field Championships in July.

In June, Hanson set a personal record with a time of 13.38 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles at the 30. Bauhaus Junior Gala 2024 in Germany.
