Breaking: Texas Tech football lands 2025 offensive lineman with multiple Big 12 offers

Patrick McMath, an offensive lineman hailing from Katy, Texas, has recently committed to play for Texas Tech football in the class of 2025.

Since the arrival of Texas Tech football head coach Joey McGuire in Lubbock, there has been a concerted effort to bolster the team’s offensive line by recruiting from high schools, and this endeavor has carried over into the class of 2025 with the addition of 3-star recruit Patrick McMath.

Standing at 6 feet 4 inches and weighing 255 pounds, McMath is ranked as the No. 1241 player and the No. 91 interior offensive lineman in the country by 247Sports.com. Additionally, he is rated as the No. 191 player in Texas according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

McMath marks the first offensive lineman to commit to the Red Raiders in the current recruiting cycle. Alongside Texas Tech, he has received offers from various programs including Arizona, Baylor, BYU, and Houston, representing different conferences including the Big 12.

Texas Tech has faced challenges in establishing a competitive offensive line in the past. The inadequacies of previous coaching staffs under Kliff Kingsbury and Matt Wells in replenishing the talent pool in that position have necessitated a focused effort by McGuire and his team to construct a formidable group capable of holding its own in the Big 12 each season.

For example, in the upcoming season, the team is expected to have an offensive line comprising three former transfers, with two of them being new to the program and likely to assume starting roles right away.

Furthermore, under the leadership of McGuire, the team has secured the addition of eight offensive linemen through the transfer portal. This averages out to four linemen per class, indicating McGuire’s persistent search for solutions in that specific position group since his arrival.

Additionally, among the players in the two-deep rotation for the current year, seniors Caleb Rogers and Sterling Porcher at tackle, along with Vinny Sciury and Davior Carter at guard, will all graduate in 2025. Consequently, the Red Raiders will need to fill multiple positions on the offensive line for the following season.

Following the decommitment of two players from the Red Raiders’ 2025 recruiting class on Sunday, the team currently has 14 commitments. Despite this, the class maintains its national ranking at No. 25 according to 247Sports.
