The Texas Longhorns (12-2) are headed to Atlanta to face the Arizona State Sun Devils (11-2) in the second round of the College Football Playoff. Whether or not star wide receiver Isaiah Bond will play in the game is still uncertain.
Bond, who has been banged up for much of the 2024 season, missed the Longhorns’ first-round playoff game against the Clemson Tigers (10-4), recovering from an ankle injury. Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian updated the dynamic player’s health on Monday. “I think Isaiah continues to make really good progress for us,” Sarkisian said.
“Obviously, we’re quite a ways out. My goal coming out of Christmas here is that progress continues in a positive direction, and we can see where it goes from there.”
When healthy, Bond has been as advertised for his team in 2024. Much of his offensive explosion has come from behind the line of scrimmage, with explosive plays against Florida, Mississippi State, and UTSA. That said, Bond made impressive red-zone plays over the course of the season as well.
The Texas receiver has 33 receptions for 532 yards and five receiving touchdowns in 2024.
The Longhorns will hope to get Bond closer to full health in the near future. With a win, Texas would advance to play the winner between Oregon and Ohio State in Arlington in the College Football Playoff Semifinal.
